What is a BCBA?

  • BCBA stands for 'Board Certified Behaviour Analyst'

  • All BCBAs have a Bachelors degree, a Masters degree and completed coursework specific to ABA, at least 1500 hours of supervised field work experience, and passed a board exam.

  • BCBAs also are required to complete continuing education credits to maintain their certification every two years.

  • Anyone conducting ABA should be supervised by a BCBA.

  • BCBAs are trained to conduct assessments, develop behaviour plans and programme goals, train and oversee direct staff (ABA therapists or tutors) analyse data and make changes.

  • Only BCBAs are qualified to carry out Functional Assessments
